I too came to it late, some co-workers recommended it to me when it was out on DVD, and after I rented the first disk from Netflix, I bought the complete season and started loaning it out to friends and family. So far everyone that has seen it agrees that it's one of the best ever. Looking forward to Dollhouse, since after Firefly I ended up checking out Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (two more Joss Whedon projects) and was equally impressed. You made me sad with that quote, probably one of the best from the show. The best part was always the characters and you have to watch it all the way through to really connect. Good news? Joss's new show Dollhouse, which has a great premise, should be coming out soon. The bad news? It's on Fox. Hopefully they don't screw it up. I agree.
