Firefly
I don’t want to go on a rant here, but think I have to.
WHY THE HELL DID THE TV SHOW FIREFLY NOT BECOME THE NEXT BIG THING?
I’m probably one of the last people to join the band wagon, but I have to say… That has to have been the best show EVER.
My husband, Joe, had seen the show when it was originally aired, but I had only seen bits and pieces of a few episodes. I was reluctant, to say the least, about a sci-fi show that acted like a western, but once Joe told me to think about it like Star Wars without the aliens and lightsabers, I accepted the idea.
When the movie Serenity came out, Joe and I went to watch it and I really liked it. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand a lot of the movie because I hadn’t seen the TV show. So, since he just got it, we sat down recently and watched the first and only season of Firefly.
God, that was the greatest show. I feel royally jipped that there isn’t any more to watch.
At least now I can go back and watch Serenity again and this time I’ll actually understand everything. And actually care when people die. I gotta say, knowing what I do about what happens in the movie, it makes me a little sad that I’ve already seen it. But that wont stop me from watching it again. Any way I can get more I will gladly accept. I even recently bought a graphic novel about Firefly. And I’m not even a comic book lover.

<sigh> I love Mal.

I agree. You made me sad with that quote, probably one of the best from the show. The best part was always the characters and you have to watch it all the way through to really connect.
Good news? Joss’s new show Dollhouse, which has a great premise, should be coming out soon. The bad news? It’s on Fox. Hopefully they don’t screw it up.

I too came to it late, some co-workers recommended it to me when it was out on DVD, and after I rented the first disk from Netflix, I bought the complete season and started loaning it out to friends and family. So far everyone that has seen it agrees that it’s one of the best ever.
Looking forward to Dollhouse, since after Firefly I ended up checking out Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (two more Joss Whedon projects) and was equally impressed.
